What's the biggest difference between middle school and high school? The freedom. The trust that Prep faculty and staff place on each student is really comforting. The amount of freedom to pursue any type of activity, sport, or subject is crucial to how I continue to be shaped as a person, and I think that it is only possible in high school.

Why are you glad that you chose College Prep? I felt that College Prep was genuinely interested in the journey of the student, rather than thinking of the student as another person to send through high school. When I visited College Prep, I was able to see the genuine connections made between students and teachers and how that transpired into continued interactions outside of the classroom. Additionally, when it came to the students interacting amongst each other, I saw for the first time how people from different grade levels were friends with one another. The fluidity and openness that College Prep provides drew me in.

What advice do you have for 8th graders applying to high school? Don't be afraid to be your true self. I know that you may think that there is a mold that you need to fit yourself into in order to make sure a school notices you, but in my experience, it is always best to let your true identity shine through on the application because authenticity is one of the greatest values there is.

What campus activities are you involved in? Debate: I have been debating for over 7 years and it feels very natural to me. Debate is a way for me to meet new people and travel, as well as discuss topics that are relevant and important to me.  Admissions Ambassador: I have always loved helping people, and I feel that through this program I am able to help prospective students and parents understand why Prep is so special. Partners: Carrying on with my love for helping, the Partners Program was an instant connection. Helping middle schoolers with their work, but more importantly becoming friends with them is something that makes me want to come back every semester. Mens Shelter: It is a way for me to give back to the community, and there is nothing like hanging out with your friends and cooking meals. PHIRE Senior: Wellness and Decision Making was a very interesting and helpful part of my sophomore year. When I had the opportunity to become a PHIRE senior for the rising sophomores, I instantly applied because I know how important and valuable the topics we learned in WDM are.

What is your favorite College Prep memory? Intraterm 2019. The group that I was in went to Vancouver and Seattle for a week and it was one of the best school trips I have ever been on. Because it was a mix of multiple people from different grades, the amount of time that we had together was very nice to get to know each other more and have a fun time. The trip was a way for me to make more friends that I normally would not have had the opportunity to talk to before then.

What is your favorite place on campus? I have so many memories associated with the steps of the music lawn. The music lawn steps feel like a natural place that my friends and I always gravitate to during free periods and breaks.

What has been your favorite class? Math 4AB with Kevin Wray. Our class was the perfect blend of funniness, compatibility, and determination. There was never a dull day in the class, and I feel like we all helped each other become better mathematicians.

What has been the best thing about College Prep? How community-oriented we are. College Prep definitely makes sure that their students learn how valuable the community is by introducing it through classes, clubs, and activities. I had no idea what Oakland was like before coming to Prep because I live 40 miles away. After attending College Prep and taking advantage of community-based offerings, I am happy to say that I have a deeper connection with a city that was once unknown to me.

Who is your favorite character from a movie/book/television series? Michael Scott from The Office

Three unusual things about me:
1. I love anything related to commercial aviation.
2. I love bingeing reality TV.
3. I love sharks.
